When I found out she was going to take a look.....I was excited but totally bummed that I had talked Brandon out of coming to the first appointment. I just had no idea going in at 9 weeks that she'd be doing a sonogram. Lesson learned, folks. Brandon was definitely disappointed, but ultimately thrilled to see the pictures she sent home with me to share.
Dr. Winn was exactly as Dr. Lozano described her....a great doc who is very laid back with a great sense of humor. She actually just had her first child 19 months ago and was very open to sharing her story because, as you all know....I'm a curious soul and ask lots of questions when I first meet someone. Nothing about the appointment felt rushed and I'm totally in love with her and the staff there. It's already a great fit.
I'm sure everyone is wanting to know what the next steps are, so here goes.
We are working right now to get an appointment set up to have a CVS test. This is a test that can be performed between 10-13 weeks (I'm 10 weeks today) and will confirm whether or not there are any abnormalities in chromosomes 21, 18, and 13. It also detects other 'like' abnormalities, but 21, 18 and 13 are the big ones. The reason this is recommended for us is because of my age. 35 is the age where the chances for abnormalities really starts to increase. We're lucky enough to have a friend who is a genetic counselor in the biz and after discussion with her .....we feel it's the right step. I can confidently say that the chances for abnormalities with us is already lower because of all of the healthy, gorgeous kids that have been born and raised on both sides of our families, but knowing for sure is important to us. Anyway, once I get the authorization number from my insurance company, we're going to get on the schedule and have this little hurdle behind us.
My next appointment with Dr. Winn is 12/12 and Brandon will definitely be there this time....promise!!! I'll be getting all of the results of my blood and urine work back and doing the first ultrasound. I'll also be getting a prescription for prenatal vitamins...she sent me home with a bag full of samples to try out and determine which one I like best. I had already been taking an OTC prenatal vitamin, but figure that doctor knows best, right?
After our CVS test and second appointment are behind us (whew!), we'll start packing up ourselves and the Blazer for our anniversary trip!!! I'm so excited about heading out of town and getting some sand between my toes again....I can already feel the ocean breeze in my hair....*sigh....... Don't worry, I'll be boring you with the all of the trip details in the coming weeks. We're going to be traveling 2,300 miles so there will be plenty to chat about!! = )
Thanks for checking in. I'll be back next week with more!
